This fall, San Francisco State University volunteer LizSandra and her match Clara have built a friendship filled with laughter, art, and conversation. What began as a simple chat over coffee has grown into a weekly ritual--one that brings color, creativity, and joy to both of their Thursdays.
From the very start, LizSandra felt something familiar about Clara. “She reminds me of family--like a Tía,” she shared. Their bond naturally bloomed through Spanish conversation, shared stories, and plenty of humor. Each visit has become a space where they can slow down, talk about life, and find comfort in each other’s company.
One of their favorite activities together has been painting mandalas. What began as a quiet art session soon turned into a moment of joy, complete with Clara’s daughter, Elizabeth, and the Alma Via art therapist joining in. Paintbrushes in hand and laughter echoing through the room, the group even ended the day with a spontaneous photo shoot to capture their creations.
Beyond the art and conversation, LizSandra says what she treasures most is Clara’s outlook on life. During one of their meetings, Clara shared a piece of advice that has stayed with her: “Live life and enjoy every moment.” It’s a message that perfectly captures the heart of their friendship, one rooted in warmth, presence, and joy.
Their connection is a beautiful reminder of what Perfect Pair stands for: creating spaces where generations come together to share stories, laughter, and love--one friendship at a time. 💛
