Meet Kayley and Christine from our SFSU Chapter!
Kayley and Christine’s match has become a beautiful example of connection through laughter, games, and shared moments. From their very first visit in May, Kayley was drawn into Christine’s world, hearing stories about her life in San Francisco, her children, and catching up with her close-knit group of friends, including Jim and Lauretta. What started as casual conversation quickly blossomed into weekly meetups filled with cards, happy hours, and creative attempts to explore new hobbies.
Their favorite go-to? Card games. Whether it is the never-ending rounds of Crazy 8s or a new challenge like Gin Rummy or Blackjack, Christine is always game–literally. Kayley remembers one hilarious moment when Lauretta kept trying to sneak in extra cards, sending the whole table into laughter. As the weeks go by, more residents have joined the fun–Paul, Pat, and others have become familiar faces in their growing circle. Kayley even brought out an art box one week, trying to convince the group to step away from cards (not easy!). While Christine stayed loyal to the games, Lauretta gave sketching a try and even helped Kayley attempt a portrait of Jim.
But their visits aren’t all games and giggles, Kayley made it a goal to encourage Christine to enjoy short walks outside. One afternoon, the two stepped out onto the patio where they listened to birds and soaked up the fresh air, something Christine mentioned she loves but rarely gets to do. These small, intentional efforts have added new layers to their connection.
From teaching and learning new games to celebrating the small joys of movement and creativity, Kayley and Christine’s match continues to grow in warmth and depth. Each visit adds a new memory, a new laugh, and a stronger bond. We can’t wait to see what the next month holds for this special pair!
